…whatever you want it to be!!
A technical, psychological or scientific perspective would suggest that
performance is "the product of ability multiplied by motivation". On
the other hand, personal mastery is the "capacity to not only produce
results, but also to master the principles underlying the way you produce
results".
We believe that you define the context within which you are searching for performance excellence. Each of us has a different personality, motivation, mental state and philosophical foundation. We all live in different environments and have been influenced in ways that are really only known by ourselves. In essence you are the expert and best understand where you have been, your situation right now and where you would like to go in the future.
Our Perspective on Performance Excellence
Clear, observable performance excellence is a function of an individual or teams
behaviour, relevant and timely motivation and ongoing development or learning.
We have created a simple model, the Performance Excellence System, to illustrate
how these elements combine to ensure performance excellence in any aspect of
business, sport or the performing arts.
The terms used to describe individuals or teams that demonstrate performance excellence vary for each area of performance. Some of these include champion, guru, role model, leader and maestro (and I am sure you probably have a few of your own).
Performance
Process
The Performance Process occurs as a frequent, single, new or familiar, behaviour or part
of a more complex activity and is driven by internally or externally generated
motivators, plus learning and development. Core areas of the Performance Process
include goal setting, performance measurement and feedback. Sustained periods of
successful performance over time will eventually lead to Performance Excellence
Reward and Recognition
These are the motivators that influence behaviours. The overall impact can be
linked to the magnitude and frequency of the reward for each individual
situation. This impact can vary between individuals and teams according to the
situation, previous experience and preferences.
Capability Development
Capability Development is any activity where there is an investment in the skill
or knowledge of an individual or team as a result of a structured learning and
development. Return on this investment is greatest for those who demonstrate
consistent levels of performance, are positively motivated and have the ability
to react in a positive manner to feedback and coaching. Successful performers
are more likely to receive and benefit from Capability Development.
Performance Excellence
Performance Excellence is a demonstrated superior level of skills and
performance over an extended period of time. These individuals or teams will
have influenced others in a positive way throughout their career.
A Partnership for Performance Excellence
Our individual clients generally choose to form a partnership as they are doing
very well and want to identify what they are doing at their peak so that it can
be duplicated at will. Alternatively, they want to learn additional skills to
improve their current performance or to prepare for a new endeavour. At times
they also find it difficult to find someone to act as a sounding board and ask
us to provide a fresh perspective or simply discuss the areas that they think
are the most important.
Reasons to form a partnership for Performance Excellence include:
Our business partners believe their greatest asset is their people - and we agree! In order to stay ahead of the competition, you need to empower your people by providing them with the latest training in the areas of motivation, communication skills, goal setting, leadership and healthy coping strategies to overcome adversity.
We partner to improve organisation culture and can help evaluate current employee selection devices (including the use of personality, interest and aptitude tests), employee retention philosophy, and employee recognition programs.
